UK Government Departments
Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) brings together government energy policy and climate change mitigation.
Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) helps ensure that UK businesses are successful in a competitive world. The BIS Energy and Climate Change Unit represents UK business sector interests (including concerns stated by UK Energy Intensive Industries).

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is responsible for policy and regulations in each of these areas. Energy and climate change mitigation policy is done by DECC.
UK Government Funded Organisations
Carbon Trust was set-up in 2001 by the UK government as an independent company. The Trust works with UK businesses to reduce carbon emissions and develop commercially viable low carbon technologies. They have developed the Carbon Trust Standard for operations and Product Assessment System (PAS 2050) for products to reduce carbon emissions.
Energy Savings Trust (EST) was set-up by the UK government as an independent organisation to primarily promote energy saving actions households can take to reduce carbon emissions.
UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP) helps organisations assess how they might be affected by climate change and how they can plan to minimal those impacts.
UK Academic Energy and Climate Change Research Centres
Environmental Change Institute (ECI) is an interdisciplinary unit within Oxford University. It has three focal areas of research: climate change governance, energy and terrestrial ecosystems. ECI is the academic-base for SMEasure.
Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research (Tyndall Centre) is developing sustainable responses to climate change through multi-disciplinary research. The Centre brings together scientists, economists, engineers and social scientists.
UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) is the focal point for UK research on sustainable energy. It takes an independent, whole-systems approach, drawing on engineering, economics and the physical, environmental and social sciences.
Non-Profit Organisations
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a network-based organization that has developed one of the world’s most widely used sustainability reporting frameworks. The framework sets out the principles and indicators that organisations can use to measure and report their economic, environmental and social performance.

Greenhouse Gas Protocol developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) the protocol is one of the most widely used international accounting for government and business leaders to understand, quantify and manage greenhouse gas emissions.
Julie’s Bicycle has been set-up to help the UK music industry understand its greenhouse gas emissions and work together collectively to find practical solutions for creating a low carbon creative industry. Julie’s Bicycle has been a partner with SMEasure supporting the piloting of the software with music companies and organisations.
National Energy Foundation (NEF) assists organisations in reducing their carbon emissions through energy efficiency and sustainable energy measures.
Renewable Energy Centre is an easy-to-understand introduction to renewable technologies, with advice on installation and a directory of contractors and suppliers including for commercial renewables and energy saving solutions for businesses.

Complementing Energy Management Software to SMEasure
imeasure is the web-based energy management tool the Environmental Change Institute has designed for use by households. imeasure gives people the ability to accurately measure and compare energy use and carbon emissions over time.
Voluntary Standards Organisations
BSI (British Standards Institute) is the provider of standards, management systems, business improvement and regulatory approval information. It is the National Standards Body of the UK. BS EN 16001 is a British standard for best practice in energy management within an organisation.
Carbon Trust Standard is company set-up by the Carbon Trust to oversee a certification scheme for organisations demonstrating they have systems and practice in place for measuring, managing and reducing their carbon emissions.

Projects
ClimateXChange is a project is working with Oxfordshire-based organisations and initiatives to support and build a network engaged and acting on climate change. The project is run by the Environmental Change Institute.
Campaigns
10:10 is campaign calling for the UK government, business and citizens to reduce carbon emissions by 10% in 2010.
The Prince’s Rainforest Project is a campaign calling for urgent action to protect the world’s rainforest given their important in climate change, biodiversity and livelihoods.
